At 9:00 PM, the streets of the historic center began to fill with residents and devotees who accompanied the passage of the patron saint. Entire families, children, adults, and representatives of associations and groups from the city wanted to accompany the Virgin on a night marked by faith, tradition, and the spirit of Torrent.
The image left the Parish of the Assumption amidst applause and cheers for the Virgin, beginning a journey full of symbolism along Church Street, Plaza Mayor, San Cristóbal Street, Obispo Benlloch Square, and Ramón y Cajal Street until reaching San Luis Bertrán. Throughout the entire route, hundreds of people from Torrent carried the patron saint on their shoulders, embracing her with verses, cheers, and continuous displays of affection.
One of the most notable aspects of the night was again the popular participation. Numerous balconies were adorned for the occasion and, as the Virgin passed, showers of petals covered the streets of the historic center, creating images of great beauty. In addition, different improvised altars, such as that of the Falla de la Plaça, and points along the route served to dedicate poems and verses to the patron saint, keeping alive a deeply rooted tradition in the city.
Among the most emotional scenes of the night was the presence of numerous families who took advantage of the Virgin's passage to present their newborns. Many parents raised their children towards the image as a sign of protection and devotion, creating especially moving moments that drew applause and emotion from the attendees.
The Virgin also made a special stop in front of the Colegio de La Purísima, where she was received with expressions of affection from the students before continuing her journey towards the Hermitage.
Undoubtedly, one of the most anticipated moments of the transfer took place in Obispo Benlloch Square, in front of the Torrent City Hall. The main facade of the consistory was completely adorned with the colors of the Real Senyera and with large banners with the image of the Virgin hanging from its balconies, offering a solemn and spectacular image.
There, the 'barreros' (carriers) staged one of the most exciting traditions of the night by lifting the Virgin in their arms and performing the traditional circular turns in front of the crowd gathered in the square. Hundreds of residents followed the moment with applause, cheers, and emotion as the patron saint seemed to look towards all the people of Torrent present.
Subsequently, the Virgin headed towards the door of the old City Hall located at Ramón y Cajal Street, 7, where another of the most special moments of the night was experienced from the institutional balconies. The Falleras Mayores de Torrent, along with the Musa de la Música de la UMT, dedicated heartfelt verses and poems to the patron saint.
Alongside them was the mayor of Torrent, also accompanied by the Courts of Honor. After the reading of the poems, a spectacular shower of petals was launched over the Virgin from the balconies of the consistory.
The transfer then continued along Ramón y Cajal Street amidst continuous cheers for the Virgin of the Forsaken. Shortly before midnight, the Virgin finally arrived at the Parish of San Luis Bertrán, where she was received with a fireworks display fired by Hermanos Caballer, illuminating the sky of Torrent and putting the finishing touch to the night.
Once inside the hermitage, attendees also sang the traditional Coronation Hymn, thus closing one of the most beloved and heartfelt acts of the festivities in honor of the Virgin of the Forsaken.
The celebrations conclude on Tuesday, May 12, with the traditional 'besamanos' (kissing of the hand) to the Virgin in the Parish of San Luis Bertrán, one of the most intimate and emotional acts for the devotees of Torrent. From early morning and throughout the day, hundreds of people will pass before the image of the Pilgrim Virgin to show their affection and devotion before the evening mass in suffrage for the deceased confreres, which will put an end to festivities that, once again, have demonstrated the deep roots of traditions and the profound Marian faith of Torrent.
