The Picassent City Council received this Thursday in Madrid the recognition from the 10th Good Practices Against Gender Violence Competition. This initiative, promoted by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) along with the Government of Spain through the Delegation against Gender Violence of the Ministry of Equality, has awarded the municipality for the campaign "Prostitution consumption is violence," driven by the Department of Equality.
The councilor for the area, Belén Bernat, accompanied by technicians from the department, attended the institutional event to receive the distinction. The awarded project identifies prostitution as a form of male violence, with an awareness campaign aimed especially at young citizens. The jury valued the innovative approach of the proposal and its capacity to question socially normalized behaviors and generate social reflection.
The campaign combined street actions, audiovisual material, social media, and educational activities. Among the highlighted initiatives were the placement of fake advertisements with informative QR codes in different parts of the municipality, explanatory videos with municipal staff and professionals linked to youth and education, as well as the programming of activities for November 25th. Its social media impressions have exceeded 100,000.
Talks were also organized with the abolitionist activist Amelia Tiganus aimed at citizens, municipal staff, and 4th-year ESO students from Picassent's educational centers, with teaching materials developed by the Department of Equality itself. Belén Bernat highlighted that "this recognition reinforces the work developed in recent years in equality matters and values the involvement of the technical teams, educational centers, and social groups that have participated in this initiative".
With this award, Picassent consolidates its commitment to public equality policies and the fight against all forms of violence against women.
