The gastronomic initiative 'Coca del Poble' in Paiporta, created to support bakeries and ovens in L'Horta Sud affected by the DANA, has united memory, tradition, and flavor. This solidarity dessert, based on the traditional pumpkin, almond, and orange 'coca', was driven by students from the Escola d'Hoteleria at IES Guillem d’Alcalà in La Pobla de Farnals and IES La Sénia, as part of the Challenge Lab ‘Fent Persones’ project. The Paiporta City Council supports this initiative through the Department of Economy, Employment, and Commerce.
The main objective is to revitalize, through gastronomy, the ingredients, flavors, and essence of L'Horta Sud's pastry-making, thereby boosting the local economy and fostering a greater connection between citizens and the town's businesses. This Monday, students and teachers distributed 500 units of this dessert near the Paiporta Municipal Market, where its origin, creation process, and local ingredients used were also explained.
The Councilor for Economy, Employment, and Commerce, José Antonio Redondo, highlights the key role of local commerce in economic development and the current challenges. He emphasizes the importance of training and young talent to drive the recovery of these businesses, which define the neighborhoods and the way of life.
This collaborative project, involving nine educational centers, has studied the economic, commercial, and social needs of the L'Horta Sud region, structured around three axes: ‘Resilient Businesses’, ‘Emergency and Reconstruction Office’, and ‘Culture and Leisure’. Guillermo Jorques, coordinator of the Challenge Lab project at IES La Sénia, emphasizes the value of people and their creative capacity to find joint solutions, forming a solidarity-driven, multidisciplinary group where students and teachers have learned collaboratively.
