This text, written by Ester Medrano, was selected by the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC) to be part of its 'Inèdits' project, an initiative that seeks to support and give visibility to Valencian dramaturgy. The show, directed by Roberto Hoyo, stands out for its poetic beauty, social content, rhythm, and humor.
The play, performed by Pau Gregori, Ester Medrano, and Marta Santandreu, features two characters on stage, half people and half giraffes, who live a love story in the middle of the savannah. However, routine, parenting, and other predators threaten the survival and integrity of their relationship.
A third character, the savannah's DJ/VJ, is responsible for creating a sound environment with electronic music and visual accompaniment that transports the audience on this journey. This element adds irony and social criticism about sexual-affective relationships, as well as a reflection on gender roles and identity, and an analysis of subjects' behavior as an animal study.
La Subterránea, a theater company based in València formed by Lucía Sáez and Ester Medrano, approaches its proposals from collective creation, characterizing its work by research, new scenic languages, and commitment. Tickets for the show can be purchased at the box offices of the Principal and Rialto theaters, as well as on the IVC's online ticket office.
