Artificial intelligence (AI) has started to make its way into Valencian town halls. From automating administrative tasks to data analysis and improving emergency response, an increasing number of municipalities are exploring how to incorporate these tools into their daily management, at a time when digitalization has become a top priority for public administrations' internal operations.
In this context, the Diputación de Valencia has taken a step in this direction by creating a specific Artificial Intelligence delegation, headed by the mayor of Torrent, Amparo Folgado. The objective is to promote the use of these technologies in the province's municipalities and facilitate their implementation in local administration.
The applications of AI in town halls are increasingly broad. As Folgado herself has explained in various meetings on the subject, some of the most immediate uses include automatic document classification, drafting technical and administrative reports, searching for information within complex files, and handling frequent citizen inquiries through virtual assistants.
The possibilities also extend to areas such as urban planning, traffic management, infrastructure maintenance, and data analysis to improve decision-making. Furthermore, experts participating in these conferences suggest that these tools could, in the future, strengthen emergency prevention and response systems by analyzing large volumes of real-time information, a particularly sensitive issue in the Comunitat Valenciana following the DANA event of October 29th.
Torrent has become one of the pioneering municipalities in the practical application of these technologies. The City Council recently introduced Amparo and Jaume, two virtual assistants named after two prominent figures from Torrent, developed with artificial intelligence to facilitate citizen access to municipal information.
These tools are designed to respond to inquiries about procedures, public services, activities, or municipal resources immediately, allowing for more agile assistance twenty-four hours a day. This initiative positions Torrent among the first Valencian municipalities to incorporate conversational assistants of this type as a direct channel of communication with residents.
The commitment to Artificial Intelligence has also made Torrent a key venue for discussions on this technology in local administration. In recent weeks, nearly a hundred town halls have participated in various working sessions organized by specialized institutions such as the Instituto ValgrAI, which held a conference on June 11th in collaboration with the City Council of Torrent.
Additionally, the city has hosted meetings promoted by the Diputación de Valencia to gather the needs and priorities of mayors, councilors, technicians, and civil servants regarding the future implementation of these tools in municipal management. The aim of these sessions is to identify the main challenges facing local administrations and design strategies to leverage the potential of artificial intelligence in public services.
