The initiative, which aims to support municipalities in the "responsible and effective" adoption of this technology, takes place over three days at the Sala Cívica of the Antiguo Mercado in Torrent (Horta Sud). The kickoff was this Monday with a session for large municipalities (over 20,000 inhabitants), followed by medium-sized municipalities (5,000 to 20,000 inhabitants) on Tuesday, and small municipalities (under 5,000 inhabitants) on Wednesday.
The sessions are aimed at municipal representatives, technical staff, national habilitators, department heads, and elected officials, with the goal of creating a "space for dialogue and participation" to define future support and assistance actions that the Provincial Council will provide to municipalities regarding AI.
The new strategic line promoted by the Provincial Council includes five main areas of action: increasing municipal productivity and efficiency through AI use; developing ethical and regulatory frameworks for responsible use; training technical and political staff; defining a technically and economically sustainable strategy; and actively listening to municipalities to adapt initiatives to their priorities.
During the workshops, topics such as AI governance in municipalities, potential use cases of interest for local administrations, training needs for different municipal profiles, and future assistance services that the Provincial Council can offer will be discussed.
“"The willingness to first listen to the municipalities, understand their real needs, and build a useful, practical strategy adapted to each municipality."
The Deputy for Open Government and Institutional Integrity, Amparo Folgado, who is also the new head of the AI service at the Provincial Council, emphasized that the sessions are born from this intention. Folgado pointed out that AI represents "a great opportunity to modernize local administration, improve citizen services, and optimize public resources, but it is essential to do so with rigor, responsibility, and by accompanying municipalities throughout the entire process".
