DANA image in Paiporta wins international photography award

A striking photograph documenting the solidarity effort during the DANA in Paiporta has been honored at the XVI International Photography Contest on Healthcare Humanization of the San Juan de Dios Hospital in León.

The image, titled Humanitarian service during the toughest days of the DANA in Paiporta, shows two police officers from Teulada carrying an injured woman through mud and rubble, with other volunteers and neighbors observing the situation. This snapshot, by photojournalist Germán Caballero Martí, has been recognized for its narrative power and its ability to reflect the values of humanization and social commitment.
Captured during the most critical moments of the DANA that affected the Valencian town of Paiporta on October 29, 2024, the photograph highlights the value of humanitarian service and support for the most vulnerable people in emergency situations. The contest jury emphasized its ability to convey the severity of the catastrophe and the great solidarity shown by the communities of Marina Alta.
The photojournalist, who has spent most of his career at the newspaper Levante-EMV, has also published the books 15-M VLC and Houses From el Cabanyal, and has participated in several exhibitions. His award-winning work is a visual testament to solidarity and collective effort in the face of adversity.
