The entities, including the Associació de Víctimes de la DANA 29 d'octubre de 2024 and the Asociación de Víctimas Mortales DANA 29-O y Damnificados por la DANA de l'Horta Sud de València, have submitted a letter to the Ministry of Justice. In it, they express their «concern» about the potential consequences of reducing resources in a case they consider «key for truth, justice, and reparation for the victims».
The request focuses on the situation of reinforcements in Instruction Court number 3 of Catarroja. The associations reject the decision to eliminate part of the staff assigned to the court and recall that the withdrawal of four of the five reinforcement positions would lead to a serious delay in the investigation, as previously stated by the investigating judge.
“"It is not just about maintaining jobs, but about preventing the loss of a human team that already thoroughly understands the case and is already functioning as a coordinated and specialized team."
They consider it «especially serious» that this decision affects a work team that has been exclusively dedicated to the case for months, with personnel who perfectly understand the procedure and are already functioning as a coordinated and specialized team. Victims have argued «from the outset» that justice needs «sufficient resources, stability, and independence to act with rigor, speed, and guarantees».
The entities emphasize that their demands are «fully compatible» with the right of civil servants to stabilize their positions and with legal processes for provision and labor consolidation. They insist that it is up to the Ministry to adequately organize human and material resources so that stabilization processes do not imply the dismantling of specialized teams or negatively affect a judicial case of enormous social and human significance.
Therefore, the associations demand the full maintenance of the reinforcement positions assigned to the court, the guarantee of functional continuity and stability of the work teams linked to the investigation of the case, and the full preservation of the team already working on it. Additionally, they request the compatibility of staff stabilization processes with the effective reinforcement of the court's human resources, and a real and verifiable commitment to strengthening the Administration of Justice.
