The Alfafar City Council and Veolia, the company managing the water cycle in the municipality, have carried out part of the repair works on the sewage and stormwater network affected by the DANA storm. An investment of over seven million euros is planned over the coming months, thanks to a grant from the Ministry for Ecological Transition under the Reimpulsa Plan for urban water cycle repair.
Specifically, the sewage network replacement on Colón street has been completed, involving the change of 168 meters of sanitation piping. Furthermore, investment has been made in replacing 51 household connections affected by the heavy rains, as well as installing drains and resurfacing this street. Currently, works are underway to replace the drinking water network and stormwater network on Mola street, Mª Carmen Valverde street, and Avenida Orba, which include the renewal of 225 meters of drinking water piping. Additionally, 34 household connections and elements such as hydrants and valves will be renewed.
The territorial manager for Veolia, Laura Gascón, specified that several works are currently in progress in the municipality, including the renewal of 75 meters of drinking water piping and the installation of five new drains to improve drainage against future rainfall.
With over seven million euros allocated to recover and improve water infrastructure, the renovation of the sewage network in Sant Roc street, Nou d'Octubre street, and Doctor Ferrán street is still pending tender, which will involve the execution of 425 meters of sewage and stormwater collector. These future works will also include 39 household connections, the installation of drains, and the complete resurfacing of the streets. All pending improvements are scheduled to begin before summer.
The mayor of Alfafar, Juan Ramón Adsuara, highlighted that these actions are fundamental to recovering the municipality after the damage caused by the DANA, strengthening its capacity to face future extreme weather events. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between administrations and companies to accelerate reconstruction and added that every euro invested in network renewal is an investment in safety, quality of life, and resilience.
