Among these actions, the review of the water cannon network integrated into the Guardian project (Green Urban Actions for Resilient fire Defense of the Interface Area) stands out. This system is strategic for the protection of the municipality's forest environment and consists of 22 water cannons to protect the 2,000 hectares of forest mass in La Vallesa from potential fires.
During these tests, the device also had the support of the Local Police's aerial assets, thus reinforcing the coordination and effectiveness of municipal resources in potential emergency situations. The water cannons, installed on towers between 12 and 16 meters high, are equipped with high-pressure spraying systems capable of launching up to 1,000 liters per minute.
Their main function is to act preventively, activating before fire reaches vulnerable areas to humidify vegetation and soil. In this way, the relative humidity of the environment is increased, and its combustion capacity is significantly reduced, creating a so-called “green firebreak” that hinders the advance of flames.
“"The fine-tuning of this system allows us to anticipate risk at a particularly sensitive time, such as the arrival of summer, when temperatures and the danger of fires increase."
The council reinforces its commitment to innovation and security, consolidating the Guardian project as a key tool in fire prevention and the protection of Paterna's natural heritage. This system is complemented by other technical and human resources such as smoke detectors, the Watchtower, the forest brigade, and the Drone Unit.
