The Paterna City Council has expanded the network of free public refrigerated water fountains with four new strategic points, thus strengthening the fight against high temperatures and the promotion of sustainability in the city.

Paterna continues to expand its network of free public refrigerated water fountains with the incorporation of four new cool water dispensing points in different city locations. These new facilities join the existing one in the Plaza Mayor, which began offering this service a year ago.
These dispensing points, which supply nearly 200,000 liters of water annually, have been well-received by residents, demonstrating their usefulness as a free and sustainable service. The initiative, jointly promoted by the Paterna City Council and Aigües de Paterna, has made it possible to avoid the use of approximately 600,000 single-use plastic bottles. This fact generates a significant positive environmental impact, contributing to the reduction of about 34 tons of CO₂ emissions associated with the production and transport of these containers.
This action is part of the municipal strategy to combat high temperatures and move towards a more friendly, sustainable, and heat-prepared Paterna. The deputy mayor for Urban Development and Management, Mercedes Navarro, highlighted that “the objective is to progressively generate a network of free refrigerated fountains distributed throughout all neighborhoods, especially in areas with a higher flow of residents, to recover from the heat during the warmest months”. She added that “these points will also be complemented by shaded areas and rest zones to improve citizen well-being in public spaces”.
In this new phase, refrigerated water fountains have been installed in the Parc Central (next to the Skate Park area, Santa Rita neighborhood), in the Children's Park on Valencia street (Campamento neighborhood), at the entrance to Alborgí Park (near Europa Avenue), and at the entrance to the Tàctica business park (at the beginning of the running circuit).
Navarro specified that “in addition to these new additions, the City Council is already working on a subsequent expansion phase for this same year with more cool water points”. In this way, the Paterna City Council reinforces its municipal strategy to improve climate comfort in the city and adapt to high temperatures, promoting initiatives that contribute to making Paterna a more friendly, healthy, and sustainable city for its residents.
