The Ciudadanos councilor in the Moncada City Council, Jesús Gimeno, has stated that municipal management has transformed into a "farewell tour" for the mayor. According to Gimeno, May 17 has been marked as the climax of a "personality cult" that, he claims, all citizens are paying for. The directive is clear: the mayor should not lose any prominence before handing over the staff of command, and for this, the government team has decided that management must stop for the party to continue.
Gimeno criticizes the executive's ability to invent anniversaries, such as the celebration of the "55th anniversary" of the Queens of the Festivities. He argues that the reason for this choice is not found in Moncada's history, but in the urgency of the mayor's ego in her last year, seeking any excuse for a public event at the taxpayer's expense.
While the orchestra tunes up and fallero galas, vintage vehicles, and massive Civil Protection events are organized, Moncada's reality crumbles behind the scenes. It is the triumph of aesthetics over arithmetic.
The councilor highlights the "evaporation" of 8,300,000 euros in FEDER funds due to "negligence," 2,000,000 euros in "phantom investments" linked to a plot in the industrial park that no one wants to sell, and an additional 136,000 euros approved in the last plenary session for "parties," raising the festivities budget to an scandalous 1.2 million euros. Meanwhile, municipal budgets are conspicuously absent, just like last year, and projects such as the Auditorium, the Pelosa bike lane, and the Camí Camarena remain unrealized.
The mayor's handover is scheduled for June 17 at 12:00 PM, a Wednesday. Gimeno anticipates a "shoving match" for the photo, with the mayor trying to retain a shadow of command and Mr. Gonzalvo rehearsing the smile of someone who inherits a municipality with empty management but a full calendar of festivities. For Gimeno, governing is about setting priorities, and in Moncada, the priority is not clean streets or functioning infrastructure, but that "the music does not stop playing and the captain's makeup looks impeccable."
