On April 11, 1993, the life of Guillem Agulló, a young left-wing independentist militant, was cut short by a stab to the heart at the hands of a group of neo-Nazis in Montanejos (Alt Millars). This event deeply shocked Valencian society, turning Agulló into a symbol of the anti-fascist struggle.
Although the Provincial Court of Castellón ruled that the death occurred in a youth brawl, without considering it a hate crime, the confessed perpetrator of the murder, the neo-Nazi Pedro Cuevas, was sentenced to fourteen years in prison, of which he only served four. The other four accused were acquitted.
Since then, an annual tribute to his figure has been held in Burjassot, his hometown. This year, the commemoration took place under the slogan “For you and for all: the struggle continues,” with a series of cultural, informative, and protest activities organized by various Valencian civic and social entities.
The day included the presentation of the book L’assassinat de Guillem: mentides, feixistes i togues, by sociologist and writer Rafa Xambó, which analyzes the social and judicial context of the case. In the afternoon, after a popular lunch, a talk titled “Guillem's struggles today” was held, a space for reflection on the relevance of his struggle in current social movements.
The most emotional moment came at 6:30 PM with the floral offering and the demonstration through the streets of Burjassot, which remembered the figure of Guillem Agulló, whose relevance, according to the organizers, intensifies in current times.
