This significant gathering, which began its inaugural session in Castellón and will conclude in Alicante, convenes specialists, institutions, and professionals from the sector. The primary objective is to reflect on current challenges in the conservation, maintenance, and enhancement of civil engineering heritage, both in Spain and across Ibero-America.
The congress inauguration featured the participation of various institutional and sector figures. Among them were Javier Machí, Dean of the College of Civil Engineers in the Valencian Community; Ricardo Martín de Bustamante, Vice President of the same body; Reme Mazzolari, Second Vice President of the Diputación de Valencia; and Juan Giner, Councillor for Urban Planning of the Valencia City Council. Hugo Morán, Secretary of State for the Ministry for Ecological Transition, also participated remotely.
“"Attracting a congress of this magnitude to the Valencian Community reflects the profession's commitment to society through civil engineering."
During his speech, Javier Machí emphasized the importance of this event for the region. For his part, Ricardo Martín de Bustamante highlighted that the Valencian Community is consolidating its position as a powerful epicenter for promoting public works heritage, also recalling the crucial role of infrastructures like the channeling of the Turia River during events such as the DANA.
Similarly, Reme Mazzolari pointed out the need to recover infrastructures as part of heritage, citing actions on historic inland roads as an example. Juan Giner affirmed that civil engineering in Valencia contributes to building and protecting a safer future, while Hugo Morán stressed the fundamental role of infrastructures in territorial articulation and economic development.
Throughout the event, which runs from April 7 to 10, presentations were held in various rooms on topics such as landscape, hydraulic works, railways, and port and urban infrastructures. The congress places special emphasis on the conservation and rehabilitation of civil engineering heritage, as well as its influence on landscape configuration and tourism revitalization.
