Calabuig, born in Valencia in 1960, holds a law degree from the University of Valencia and an MBA in business management and administration. His political career began in 1983 as a socialist deputy in the Corts Valencianes, and he directed the Valencian Youth Institute between 1987 and 1995.
Subsequently, he served as an MEP from 2004 to 2008 and a deputy in the Spanish Congress until 2011. In the municipal sphere of Valencia, he led the opposition against then-mayor Rita Barberà. After the change of government in 2015, he served as socialist spokesperson and councilor for Economy and Tourism, and led the PSPV in the city between 2012 and 2018.
At the regional level, during the governments of Ximo Puig, he was regional secretary for the European Union between 2016 and 2023. More recently, he had chaired the Port Authority of Valencia.
As coordinator of the Mediterranean Corridor, Calabuig's role will be to promote the full development of this infrastructure, coordinate with administrations and social agents, monitor the execution plan, and prepare reports on the status of projects. He will also analyze railway connections with ports and logistics platforms, as well as study transport demand and financing possibilities.
