The Institut Valencià d'Art Modern (IVAM), in collaboration with the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, is hosting a round table on Richard Strauss's opera Salomé, as a preliminary activity before its premiere.

The event will take place this Tuesday, at 7:00 PM, and will focus on the work inspired by the biblical story of Salomé and John the Baptist. The round table will feature the director of the IVAM, as well as the musical director of Salomé, James Gaffigan.
During the session, participants will review the essential elements of the opera's music, as well as the iconography of the character it is named after. A member of the Amics de l'Òpera i de les Arts de la Comunitat Valenciana association will moderate the discussion, as reported by the Generalitat in a statement.
This activity serves as a prelude to the premiere of the opera Salomé at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía on April 25. The performance will be musically directed by James Gaffigan and will feature an original staging conceived by the Italian director Damiano Michieletto.
Lithuanian soprano Vida Mikneviciute, admired for her vocal talent and ability to convey the emotional complexity of Salomé, has performed this role over 50 times in operas in Vienna, Munich, and Berlin. The opera Salomé premiered on December 9, 1905, and solidified Richard Strauss's career as an opera composer. The work is based on the French translation of Oscar Wilde's play and is known for its dance of the seven veils and its striking final scene.
