The Generalitat Valenciana has published a call for aid totaling 7.95 million euros, aimed at local councils for the implementation of the Municipal Strategic Fund for Fire Prevention and Forest Management for the year 2026.

This initiative, published in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV), establishes the mechanism for granting direct aid to 499 municipalities in the Comunitat Valenciana. Those with forest land and an approved Local Forest Fire Prevention Plan (PLPIF) will be eligible for these subsidies, as reported by the autonomous administration.

"Local fire prevention plans are essential so that, together with all the operations deployed by the Generalitat and provincial councils, we can be as effective as possible in preventing the scourge of forest fires."

Vicente Martínez Mus · Third Vice President and Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery
The main objective of this aid is to finance fire prevention and forest management actions included in municipal planning. This will allow for early intervention and minimize, as much as possible, these emergencies, which are becoming more frequent throughout the year. Subsidized actions include the creation and maintenance of firebreaks, the improvement of forest tracks and water points, as well as felling, pruning, and clearing.
The PLPIF, created in 2023, initially provided access to this aid for 464 municipalities. Three years later, the number of beneficiary municipalities has increased to 499. By province, the distribution is 141 in Alicante, 135 in Castellón, and 223 in Valencia.
The total amount of funds is 7,952,471.68 euros, and their distribution is based on objective criteria: 20% is distributed equally among beneficiary municipalities, 40% based on forest area, another 20% according to the relationship between forest area and population, and the remaining 20% based on protected or cataloged forest area.
