Sources from the UGT union have reported that Ford's Valencian plant is crucial for the transformation of the automotive business in Europe. This statement was conveyed by the president of Ford Europe during a visit to the factory.
The working visit, carried out on Thursday, April 23, 2026, aimed for the president of Ford Europe to meet the teams, following his appointment in November 2025. According to Ford Spain, no announcements regarding the plant were expected during this meeting.
“"Things are going very well, in the president's words, and Valencia is the key plant in the business transformation for Ford in Europe. We are in a good moment, and this invites great optimism for the future."
The Almussafes plant has a two-year ERTE Red in force for its entire workforce, affecting 4,142 workers. This mechanism concludes in 2026, with the focus on the launch of a new vehicle announced two years ago, which will be a global car, not 100% electric.
During the visit, no specific details were provided regarding the model or production volume, as previously announced by the majority union at the plant, UGT. In recent years, production at the Valencia plant has decreased due to the discontinuation of several models, and currently, it only produces the Kuga model.
UGT has announced that it will convene an assembly during May to offer more information. The union highlighted that the Electrification Agreement signed in 2022 is materializing with the launch of the new multi-energy vehicle, which will allow the recovery of the plant's activity in the medium and long term.
The results of this agreement will first be seen with the commissioning of the teams that will supervise the launch tasks of the future multi-energy model. Soon, the regulation of their functions will be agreed upon, marking the beginning of a new era for the Valencian plant and a reduction in the number of workers affected daily by the ERTE Red.
