The province of Valencia is experiencing an early onset of summer heat, with temperatures expected to remain above normal values for the next week. Although slight thermal drops and isolated storms are not ruled out, the general trend is unusually warm for this time of year.
This Sunday, the Valencian Community recorded a fully spring-like atmosphere that, at times, already reached summer levels. Temperatures slightly increased in some inland areas, especially in the regions of La Ribera and La Costera, where 30 degrees were exceeded in several points.
The highest values were recorded in these two regions, with La Pobla Llarga and Llocnou d’en Fenollet reaching 31.3 ºC. Other localities such as Xàtiva (31.0 ºC), Manuel (30.6 ºC), Castelló (30.6 ºC), Anna (30.4 ºC), and Canals (30.3 ºC) also stood out for their high readings. These values consolidate a warm trend and anticipate an episode of unusually high temperatures for this time of year.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the day began with partly cloudy or clear skies, although some low cloud intervals and even fog banks were recorded on the coast in the early morning. However, during the afternoon, an increase in instability is expected, with the possibility of showers and isolated storms, especially in the north of the province of Valencia and inland areas of the northern third. These storms could include hail in some municipalities.
In the provincial capitals, temperatures will be more moderate: Alicante will range between 14 and 24 degrees, Castelló de la Plana between 13 and 24 ºC, and Valencia between 14 and 26 ºC. The wind will generally be light and variable, with a predominance of south and east components from the afternoon.
This April 19th, the more than 31 ºC recorded represent between two and almost ten degrees more than on the same dates in recent years, a very notable thermal anomaly that reinforces the exceptionally warm nature of the day.
