The València City Council will approve this Friday the basic project for the cleaning and maintenance of the Central Market's facades, with an investment exceeding 800,000 euros to enhance its aesthetics and lighting.

The project, developed by the Arae Patrimonio y Restauración SLP team, led by architect Xavier Laumain, aims to restore the light and color to this emblematic building constructed between 1914 and 1928. The intervention includes cleaning of slats, glass, stained glass, ceramic elements, stone, and mortars, using specific techniques for fragile materials.

"The Central Market cleaning project is a milestone. I believe that in the last 20 years, it has not had an intervention of this nature, which was very necessary. It is an icon, a spectacular jewel of the city that needs to recover that significant light."

In addition to cleaning, damaged slats and glass will be replaced, prioritizing those that may pose a risk. Stained glass will also be restored when necessary. These efforts will allow the colors of the Reial Senyera and the city's coat of arms to be visible again in their original splendor.
Once the technical project is approved, the next step will be the public tender for its execution, with an overall economic allocation of 835,915 euros. The cleaning and restoration works are estimated to last five months. To minimize inconvenience to vendors and customers, the work will be coordinated with peak sales periods, and some tasks will be carried out outside market opening hours.
The cleaning of the glass, including the facade, skylights, and domes, will be carried out by specialized vertical access workers, under the supervision of a restorer. As the Central Market is a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC), the project has all favorable reports from the Generalitat's Directorate General of Heritage and the municipal services involved.
