The Valencia City Council has announced the restoration of the wooden carpentry of the Torres dels Serrans, a project aimed at conserving and enhancing historical elements of the monument.

The intervention, part of the municipal heritage maintenance tasks, will focus on improving doors, hardware, grilles, and other metal pieces associated with one of the city's most recognized buildings. The affected carpentry is distributed across the different floors of the building and shows uneven conservation due to the passage of time and exposure to environmental factors such as humidity and pollution.
The Councilor for Culture, José Luis Moreno, highlighted the council's commitment to recovering historical heritage. "We have committed from the beginning of our term to the recovery of our historical heritage. Therefore, the City Council is carrying out actions on the main historical buildings of the city to restore them," he stated. He added that this intervention will improve the image of one of the most visited buildings, adding to other works already carried out on monuments like the Torres de Quart and La Llotja.
The work, developed by the company Noema Restauradores S.L., will include cleaning surfaces, repairing wood and iron elements, as well as protection against oxidation and improving the functionality of the metal doors on the ground floor. Special attention will be paid to details such as the metal diamond points, which will be replaced with similar but distinguishable new pieces, following heritage conservation criteria.
Deteriorations such as misalignments, oxidation of keyholes and handles, or loss of forged pieces will also be corrected. Door leaf sagging issues will be addressed to improve access functionality. The wood will undergo treatment to restore its stability and resistance, while metal elements will be cleaned and protected to slow down oxidation, thus ensuring the conservation of pieces exposed to the urban environment.
The execution of the works, awarded to Ibaizabal Técnicos y Obras SLU for 30,876.16 euros, will involve the closure of the monument to the public from May 25 to June 14. With this initiative, the Valencia City Council reaffirms its commitment to the protection of cultural heritage and the collective memory of the city.
The Torres dels Serrans, declared a Site of Cultural Interest since June 1931, were built between 1392 and 1398 by the master stonemason Pere Balaguer.
