The initiative was announced by the mayor of València, following the presentation of the Neighborhood Police training course at the Local Police headquarters. This course, starting this Monday and lasting all week, aims to give new momentum to this unit.
“"We are working on the application, I believe we will have it before the end of the year and we will be able to launch it."
The app's main goal is to establish direct and effective contact between residents and neighborhood officers, addressing their needs promptly. Although traditional contact already exists between neighborhood representatives and the police, the application will improve communication with merchants, social infrastructure managers, and the police who understand the reality of each neighborhood.
The Neighborhood Police is gaining strength due to its mission of understanding social realities and coexistence issues, enabling preventive action. The mayor emphasized the unit's importance for crime prevention, as residents are aware of potential crime hotspots, and the relationship of trust facilitates this task.
“"There can be crime hotspots, residents know about them, and there is a relationship of trust that indeed makes crime prevention much easier."
The specialized training course involves professionals from various municipal services. Since the beginning of the mandate in mid-2023, the Neighborhood Police unit has grown from 58 to 105 officers, aiming to improve presence, security, tranquility, mediation, and conflict resolution in neighborhoods. It was highlighted that officers now reach important areas of the city where they previously lacked presence due to resource shortages, such as La Fuensanta, En Corts, or Benimaclet.
Furthermore, it has been announced that the 2026 public employment offer will include one hundred additional officers for the Local Police, with 60 expected to be active before the end of the year. This reinforcement is part of the commitment to enhance security and strengthen units like GAMA (group for assistance to victims of mistreatment) and European projects, which has been linked to a more than 7% decrease in the crime rate in the city of València since 2024-2025, according to data from the Ministry of Interior.
