Thirty-six years after the inauguration of the first monumental character, València is processing a prior report request to validate the project for the new "Gulliver Park II". This new play area will be installed in Section IV of the old Turia riverbed, between the Pont de les Arts and the Pont de les Glòries Valencianes, opposite the Bus Station.
The project, drafted by the Valencian firm Merino y Terroso, is part of an urban agreement between the city council and the Valencian Oncology Institute Foundation (IVO). The foundation will fully finance and execute it, subsequently ceding it to the city. It is estimated that the IVO will invest approximately 1.5 million euros in its construction.
Unlike the emblematic original figure designed by Sento Llobell, where the character appears tied, the proposal for Gulliver II presents a contemporary reinterpretation. The new giant will be seated, depicted as liberated and upright, inspired by classic illustrations from Jonathan Swift's work where he interacts with Lilliputian architecture.
The sculpture will be walkable, functioning as a three-dimensional play infrastructure. The giant's interior and surface will include tunnels, climbing nets, ramps, elevated walkways, and slides. Around it, smaller play areas inspired by books and fantastic architectures will be arranged, forming a narrative system.
The technical report highlights that the design will ensure the preservation of almost all existing vegetation, with the green screen mitigating visual pollution. Simulations indicate that the colossus will not be visible from the Botanical Garden, the IVAM, or the Hesperides Garden.
