The València Sud complex, which houses essential facilities for Metrovalencia's operation, is nearing its full reopening, estimated within three to four weeks. The works have involved an investment of approximately 60 million euros.
During an institutional visit, the third vice-president of the Consell and Minister of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, highlighted the progress of the work. He expressed his satisfaction at seeing the facilities almost completed, contrasting with the initial images of devastation.
“"The first images we had were of devastation and desolation, and to see people working now and the facilities practically finished is a great satisfaction. We are already finishing, finalizing the work and incorporating all the staff."
The reconstruction has included the comprehensive renovation of the main building, workshops, and nearly 10 kilometers of tracks, as well as improvements in accessibility and intermodality, with a car park of over 500 spaces. Martínez Mus emphasized that this renovation has allowed for a complete modernization of the facilities, making them more resilient and equipped with advanced technology, including a new data processing center considered among the best in similar services in Spain.
One of the most significant changes has been the relocation of the command post to the first floor, a decision made after the damage suffered from the flood. This center is the core from which railway circulation and all network systems are managed.
Staff reincorporation is occurring gradually, after months of working from provisional facilities. The minister praised the staff's effort to keep the service operational throughout the reconstruction process, highlighting professionalism as key to maintaining quality.
The full commissioning of the complex will be carried out progressively in the coming weeks to avoid incidents. Martínez Mus indicated that, although full operability could be achieved in three or four weeks, the priority is a safe transition that does not affect the service.
On another note, Martínez Mus was asked about a judicial ruling that annuls the dismissal of the head of the Strategic Environmental Assessment service, Rafael Soriano. The minister assured that the resolution would be respected but stated that its challenge is being studied, as it concerns a formal matter related to a position of free appointment.
