The Gestifoc 2026 program has been redesigned with the main objective of simplifying administrative procedures as much as possible and facilitating access for local councils. As explained by Mompó, the initiative seeks to move towards a more useful administration that is closer to municipal needs, strengthening trust in the provincial institution.
We seek management that supports local councils and allows them to focus on their priorities.
For his part, Mascarell highlighted that the total allocation of 8 million euros will reach 232 forest municipalities in the province. The introduced changes will reduce the administrative burden by half compared to previous editions, thanks to the unification of procedures, moving from two files per subsidy line to a single one.
Furthermore, the call for applications has been brought forward to March, three months earlier than the previous year, to start actions sooner and improve their preventive effectiveness. The program includes a prior allocation ranging from 5,000 to 124,000 euros per municipality, based on criteria such as population size, forest area, existing planning, and the presence of protected areas or public utility forests.
Gestifoc includes two main lines of action. On one hand, it allocates 2 million euros to forest management work in municipal forests, such as silvicultural treatments and vegetation improvement. On the other hand, it mobilizes 6 million euros for infrastructures included in local fire prevention plans, such as firebreaks, conditioning of forest roads, and creation of water points. These interventions aim to reduce the risk of fire spread and facilitate the action of emergency services in case of fire.
