The Fiesta de la Mare de Déu dels Desamparats (Feast of Our Lady of the Forsaken), one of the most significant celebrations in Valencia's festive and religious calendar, will feature a distinctive element this year: the traditional floral tapestry. This intervention, which has become one of the most recognizable symbols of the festivity, stands out for both its visual impact and its emotional significance.
In this 2026 edition, the proposal takes on a particularly commemorative character, as it is dedicated to the 325th anniversary of the completion of the paintings on the Basilica's dome. This work, created by the painter Antonio Palomino, is considered one of the great jewels of Valencian Baroque art.
“"This year's proposal acquires an even more special value, focusing on a work that is an essential part of the city's artistic imagination. The Basilica's dome is one of the great jewels of Valencian Baroque, a creation that continues to surprise with its visual richness and the immersive sensation it generates for visitors."
The tapestry, which will once again bring together thousands of flowers in the heart of Valencia, is conceived as a bridge between festive tradition and the city's artistic heritage. The aim is to bring one of the most representative images from inside the temple to the street: the spectacular painted dome that surrounds the sanctuary and also houses the representation of the Mare de Déu herself.
The design of the tapestry is part of the set of actions with which the city prepares each year for the festivity of its patron saint. The Basilica has indicated that this floral intervention dialogues with Valencian artistic tradition and the city's visual identity, reinforcing the connection between architecture, devotion, and heritage. The installation will once again occupy a space of great visual impact in the square, becoming one of the main points of concentration for visitors during the central days of the festivity.
