The Valencia City Council, through the Devesa-Albufera Department, has launched a 269,622 euro contract for the regular manual cleaning of the Devesa de El Saler, located in the Albufera Natural Park, a measure described as historic and pioneering.
This long-term contract, valued at 269,622 euros, is being implemented for the first time, as reported by the city council. The Councillor for Devesa-Albufera and second deputy mayor, José Gosálbez, has visited the cleaning operations being carried out by the dedicated brigade.
“
"For years, residents have only received excuses while dirt and the risk of fire increased. That has ended. Today we move from words to deeds."
The contract establishes an annual payment of 89,874 euros (including VAT) with a planned extension of up to two additional years. Gosálbez emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting its historic nature in guaranteeing real and constant cleaning, without improvised measures.
The service will involve the manual collection of waste such as papers, plastic bags, bottles, and other similar objects that accumulate among the forest vegetation, in the wetlands (malladas), on the coastal dunes, and in the areas adjacent to the CV-500 and CV-510 roads.
“
"This new contract marks a before and after in the management of the park. We are going to set a clear precedent: mountain cleaning ceases to be something sporadic to become a permanent obligation. Whoever comes after will have to maintain this level of demand."
To optimize the work, the intervention area has been divided into four distinct zones. The service will be provided from Monday to Saturday during morning hours. Two work periods have been established, taking into account the variation in visitor numbers throughout the year: the ordinary season from September to May and the extraordinary season covering the months of June, July, and August.
Gosálbez insisted on the urgency of acting after years of neglect, assuring that the Devesa could not continue without a serious plan. He stressed that this plan responds to a historical need and puts an end to the lack of coordination that has allowed waste accumulation for too long, improving the area's image and reducing the risk of fires.
Furthermore, during the summer, an awareness campaign will be promoted to reinforce respect for the environment, aiming to involve citizens and demonstrate that the administration leads by example in terms of order and conservation.
