The city hosts this international event, considered the world's most important for sport and diversity, for the first time. This year's edition is also the first to be held in Spain and the Mediterranean, with the participation of over 10,200 athletes from 81 countries.
The gala began with the parade of international delegations, who were welcomed by representatives of Valencian folklore and dance. After the athletes entered the field, the institutional acts and musical performances commenced.
Valencian presenter Choriza May hosted the ceremony, which featured artists such as Mónica Naranjo, Soraya Arnelas, Fruela, Mia Collado, Loryrocks, and DJ Suri. Representatives from the organizing committee emphasized the inclusive nature of the games. Jon Landa Diestro, on behalf of the organization, stated that Valencia is a "brave" city and affirmed that "LGBTQIA+ people belong in sport, and sport belongs to us as much as it belongs to anyone else."

The event also included speeches by the presidents of the International Gay Games Federation, Jan Schneider and Sophia Goodner-Rodriguez. A tribute was paid to Thomas F. Waddell, the initiator of the first Gay Games in 1982, and the traditional Rainbow Memorial Relay was held, dedicated to remembering members of the LGTBIQ+ community who are no longer with us.
The ceremony concluded with oaths from athletes, referees, and volunteers, the symbolic arrival of the games' flame, the official declaration of inauguration, and a fireworks display by pyrotechnics company Vulcano. DJ Suri closed the evening, coinciding with the celebration of International Pride Day.
