The València City Council has installed its traditional May Cross on the main facade, a floral composition that this year pays special tribute to all mothers.
The Department of Festivities and Traditions was responsible for placing this institutional cross, which does not participate in the competition organized by Lo Rat Penat. The Councilor for Festivities and Traditions, Mónica Gil, highlighted that the composition is "especially carefully crafted and symbolic, marked by a Mediterranean aesthetic and a clear tribute to mothers on the occasion of Mother's Day celebration during the same weekend."

"The May Cross of València City Council once again presides over the entrance of the city hall as a display of our traditions and a legacy that deserves to be preserved."
The May Cross of 2026 is entirely embroidered with pitiminí rose bushes in pink tones, accompanied by a combination of floral hands in pink, white, and green. The vegetal base incorporates selected greens from Valencian fields, as well as pink-toned daisies of local origin and green pompons, creating a "harmonious contrast that enhances the composition."
The ensemble is enriched with orchid flowers, lavender details, limonium, and spikes, which provide a "natural and evocative" character of the Mediterranean landscape. Thyme plants and other elements are also included, completing a proposal designed to "connect with Valencian roots and traditions."

"This year we wanted to take a step further in the meaning of this cross, linked to such a significant date as Mother's Day, with a delicate and meaningful composition, using elements from our land, and combining tradition and sensitivity."
The installation of this cross is part of the tradition of the May Crosses, a celebration with deep historical roots in the city of València, documented since 1925 and promoted by Lo Rat Penat. This year, as a novelty, the crosses participating in the competition can opt for the extraordinary 'Holy Chalice of València' award, endowed with a banner and 700 euros, on the occasion of the third Jubilee Year of the Holy Chalice.
