The production, which addresses the issue of food waste, was distinguished among the top five short documentaries at the fifteenth edition of the Moroccan festival, a recognized international benchmark for environmental cinema. This award highlights the work Valencia has been undertaking for years towards a more sustainable food system.
Carlos Mundina, Councilor for Climate Improvement and Energy Efficiency, emphasized that local initiatives can become international role models. He underscored that the fight against food waste is a paramount environmental, economic, and social challenge, and that projects like MagNuS demonstrate how collaboration among administrations, the scientific community, companies, and social entities yields tangible results.
The documentary showcases Valencia's experience in promoting a more sustainable food system through innovative initiatives based on cooperation between public institutions, universities, businesses, and social organizations. Marina Castillo, CEMAS–València Sostenible's knowledge management technician, noted that the recognition places an experience developed in Valencia on the international stage, proving that collaboration, innovation, and shared commitment are key.
Running 11 minutes and 9 seconds, the film addresses the global problem of food waste, responsible for the loss of approximately one-third of the world's food production. Through testimonials, it illustrates the efforts made in Valencia to promote more responsible production and consumption models.
The MagNuS project, promoted by CEMAS along with the Lluís Alcanyís Foundation of the University of Valencia, the Valencia Conference Centre, Gourmet Catering & Events, and the technology platform Naria, forms the documentary's core. It focuses on the congress and large event sector, where improved planning is crucial for reducing food surplus.
The distinction in Chefchaouen adds to other international accolades the documentary has received at festivals such as the Berlin Indie Film Festival 2026, the Bracciano Film Festival in Italy, the Docuvision International Film Festival, and the Environmental Film & Screenplay Festival.
