The event will be inaugurated on Thursday, April 23, at 7:00 PM with a conference by the Chilean-Palestinian philosopher Rodrigo Karmy, titled The Second Coming. Zionist Eschatology and Palestinian Resistance. This will be held at the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences of the University of Valencia, as part of the programming of the Lluís Vives European School of Thought of the UV.
The conference, which requires prior registration, will unfold over three days with a program combining analysis panels, debates, artistic activities, and participatory spaces. The main objective is to place the Palestinian cause at the center of contemporary reflections on internationalist resistance and decolonization processes.
Organized by the University Network for Palestine nodes of the University of Valencia and the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the conference is supported by the UNESCO Chair of the UV and various vice-rectorates of the institution. This marks the first time Valencia hosts this state-level gathering, whose inaugural edition took place in Barcelona in November 2024.
As a prelude to the inauguration, on the morning of Thursday, April 23, an artistic performance will be held at the Faculty of Social Sciences, where a commemorative mural will be painted with the participation of several secondary schools from Valencia.
On Friday, April 24, the conference will continue at the same center with four analysis panels dedicated to addressing different dimensions of the Palestinian struggle and its global connections, including internationalist ties, the decolonization of utopian thought, the role of universities, and relations with civil society movements.
The event will bring together more than twenty local and international specialists, including Rodrigo Karmy himself, Mexican philosopher Katya Colmenares, writer and politician Juan Bordera, and Palestinian artist Shaima Hamad.
Additionally, the cultural agenda for the week at the University of Valencia also includes the participation of Pilar Bonet, an internationally renowned journalist, who will analyze geopolitics and Russia's role in the contemporary global context through two conferences. The first, From Gorbachev's USSR to Yeltsin's Russian Federation, will be on Thursday, April 23, at 10:00 AM in the Joan Fuster Hall. The second, The Empire's Frustrated Reform: Russia, between Yeltsin and Putin, will be held on Friday, April 24, at 9:30 AM in the Palmireno Hall. Both conferences, with free admission, are organized by the Alfons Cucó Chair of the UV, the Faculty of Geography and History, and the University Culture Service, with the collaboration of the Generalitat Valenciana.
