Hundreds of people queued this Thursday, the first day of regularization, at registry offices and consulates to apply for the papers that will allow them to obtain definitive residence permits in Spain. Silvana Cabrera, from the Regularización Ya València Movement, reminded that the process does not have a quota but does have a limited time until June 30, and urged those interested to collect their documentation in an orderly manner.
Cabrera attributes the uncertainty and long queues at public administrations to the lack of clear information, both for beneficiaries and for the offices responsible for accrediting residency or vulnerability reports. She stressed that public services have an obligation to provide more precise and simple information, as people are desperate to regularize their situation.
“"Migrants who want to take advantage of the process are going to reference points, such as city councils, and it seems they are not finding facilities. There is so much information that it creates disinformation."
From València Acull, it is noted that the registry certificate, one of the easiest ways to prove five uninterrupted months of permanence, has been collapsed for some time. Furthermore, the problem faced by migrants who have to resort to the special registry modality due to precarious housing or homelessness, and to whom the city council is not providing a favorable response, is highlighted.
The València City Council accused the central Government of creating a regularization process without clear criteria or additional resources for municipalities, which leads to an unmanageable increase in demand. However, the council assures that all people who come to the municipal registry offices, with or without an appointment, are being attended to, and online processing is facilitated to expedite the process.
The deadline to apply for the extraordinary regularization of migrants began this Thursday for online applications, and it is already possible to request an appointment to carry out the process in person. In-person appointments will open next Monday, April 20, at Immigration, Social Security, and Post Office branches in various cities.
