The Board of Directors of the Film Academy has approved the rules for the 41st Goya Awards, introducing significant changes to the regulation of artificial intelligence and criteria for breakthrough categories.

The Board of Directors of the Film Academy approved on Wednesday, June 3, the rules for the 41st edition of the Goya Awards. The new regulations deepen the regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) use in submitted works and incorporate career criteria for the Best New Actor and Actress categories, among other modifications.
To be eligible for the Best New Actor and Actress categories, performers cannot have more than 4 feature films released in commercial theaters as supporting actors, nor have professionally practiced film acting for more than 10 years. Additionally, only one production per country will be accepted for the Best European Film Goya category.
Regarding AI, only works whose creative authorship is exercised by identifiable natural persons, with relevant human intervention, will be eligible for the awards. The use of AI tools will not invalidate human authorship if it does not substitute fundamental creative decision-making or autonomously generate content. All submitted works must include a declaration of responsibility regarding the use of AI, detailing phases, nature, purpose, and tools used. Uses such as technical assistance, task automation, or generation of internal work materials are permitted.
However, in the Best Original Music and Best Original Song categories, the use of AI for generating the composition or lyrics, even as support, will not be permitted. Compositions generated partially or entirely with AI will also not be eligible. For Best Original Song, the lead vocal must be real and recorded by a person or choir for the submitted film.
Other novelties include the designation of a maximum of four representatives in categories with more than four registered individuals, who will act on behalf of the rest if nominated. For short films, it will be essential that the nationality certificate application date precedes the festival's start or occurs during its celebration, with a deadline of September 30, 2026.
The voting dates for the 41st edition are: first round from November 30 to December 10, 2026, and the second round from January 13 to January 22, 2027.
