Les Corts Valencianes are debating today, April 14, a Non-Legislative Motion by Vox seeking to protect Francoist vestiges, contrary to the state's Democratic Memory Law.

The Vox party has chosen Republic Day to bring to debate in Les Corts a Non-Legislative Motion (PNL) urging the Consell to promote measures to prevent the removal or elimination of elements erected during the dictatorship. This initiative, based on the Valencian Community's Law of Concord approved by the PP and Vox in July 2024, seeks to protect buildings, constructions, shields, insignia, and plaques, among others.
The vote of the Popular Party will be decisive for the approval of this motion, which, although it has no immediate legal effects, establishes a mandate for the regional executive. Vox's proposal considers these vestiges part of the «national historical heritage», a stance that contrasts with the State Democratic Memory Law, which mandates the removal of elements contrary to democratic memory.
Among the affected elements are the crosses «to the fallen» that were erected after the coup d'état. An example is the cross on Paseo de Germanías in Elx, which was already declared a Good of Local Relevance (BRL) by the PP and Vox in the town hall. Now, Santiago Abascal's party wants to go further and demands to initiate procedures to declare cultural interest for assets that may be affected by the Democratic Memory Law.
The plenary session will also include the debate for the validation of the Consell's decree-law that extends tax aid for those affected by the Campanar building fire. Furthermore, the IRPF regulation will be modified to include a one hundred percent tax bonus on transfers of extensive livestock farms. The PP will defend the declaration of 2026 as the Commemorative Year of Jaume I, while the PSPV will propose the precautionary suspension of subsidies to the Alicante Chamber of Commerce due to a judicial investigation affecting its president, Carlos Baño. Finally, Compromís will present an initiative to urge the Consell to condemn the threats from the United States under Donald Trump to appropriate natural resources in third countries.
