The Corpus Christi procession has concluded the festival's celebration in Valencia, in an atmosphere of coexistence with the protest by teachers maintaining an encampment in the Plaza de la Virgen. The educators displayed their discontent with green t-shirts and signs, but allowed the festive and religious events to proceed normally, including the dances, the Moma, and the imposing monstrance.
Despite the presence of the protest, the departure of the world's largest monstrance from the Cathedral, around 8:15 PM, occurred without incident. The demonstrators expressed their intention to respect the celebration, relocating their tents and maintaining a peaceful attitude throughout the day.
“"With good will and knowledge, everything can be done."
Paco Esteve, president of the Amics del Corpus association, highlighted the good will of all parties to ensure the development of the events, which culminate a special celebration for its 700 years of history. From the educational encampment, the intention of non-confrontation with the public or the festival was also emphasized, demonstrating that coexistence is possible in a festive atmosphere.
The festival coexisted with the protest, as seen during the Cabalgata del Convite, where a woman in a green t-shirt drew attention from the side of the Turia fountain, prompting a request from the Local Police to descend while the procession passed.
The Corpus Christi celebration, which this year reaches its 700th edition, has been prepared over two years to shine as it deserves. The coexistence between tradition and the teachers' demands has been the dominant theme, with a promise to return to protest tomorrow.
