Mallorcan rider Joan Mir has confirmed he decided not to continue with Honda after the Jerez Grand Prix, citing the factory's lack of response regarding his future. The decision comes after an incident in the Montmeló sprint race.

Honda HRC Castrol rider Joan Mir suffered an accident during the Montmeló sprint race when Brad Binder crashed on the first corner and hit him. Despite the incident, Mir remains optimistic about the good pace of his RC213V. "It has been a positive day in terms of performance. In FP2, in terms of pace, we took a small step forward. I felt very good and I think if nothing had happened, I could have competed in the race with the group," Mir told the press present at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The 2020 MotoGP world champion will start from tenth position in the main race. Mir is aware that starting from the middle of the grid can influence luck. "Starting tenth, these things can happen. If I had started fifth, it wouldn't have happened. But you start tenth, on the outside, here at Montmeló on turn 1, something always happens because we arrive very fast. With MotoGP bikes and the wings, there is also a lot of turbulence," he pointed out.
Despite the setbacks, the Mallorcan rider highlights speed as the most important factor. "We are fast, and that's what would keep me awake at night," he assured.

"After Jerez I decided not to continue with Honda. And that is true, I am not going to stay there."

Mir's future has been the subject of speculation in recent Grand Prix weekends. Speaking to the press in Le Mans, he confirmed there are "developments" and that his future is "progressing adequately," with the possibility of continuing in MotoGP. His continuity at Honda was questioned amid rumors about Fabio Quartararo and David Alonso as the Japanese factory's next official riders, and his links to Trackhouse and Gresini Racing.
Mir explained that the decision to leave Honda was made in Jerez due to the management's lack of communication about his future. "In Jerez, I had no news from Honda's management about where I would go. And what is clear is that I don't think I deserve that. So that made me change my mind and decide that I didn't want to continue here. And then the rest will be seen," he concluded.
