The mural, painted in 2022, has received international recognition and awards, including the Temps de Les Arts in Visual Arts. The Provincial Council's decision is based on the expiration of a two-year permit to intervene on the facade of a Site of Cultural Interest, the Plaza de Toros.
“"The most surprising thing is that the wall where it is painted will be demolished anyway in some time."
The Valencian artist has expressed his frustration, as the Ministry of Culture has had a request to save the artwork since February 2024, without having received a response in over two years. This silence, according to Escif, justifies the removal of the piece.
Sources from the provincial body have explained that, as the Generalitat did not extend the permit, the Provincial Council abides by the decision and has ordered the artist to erase his own work. Escif's social media post has generated significant uproar, with thousands of likes and hundreds of comments, awaiting a reaction from the involved institutions.
