The Civil Guard has arrested a 64-year-old man in Moixent who drove 27 kilometers in the wrong direction on the A-35 and A-33 motorways, at night and under the influence of drugs, while towing a caravan.

The incident occurred on the night of March 26, when several calls to the 112 Emergency Center of the Valencian Community reported a car with a caravan trailer driving in the prohibited direction near Font de la Figuera, on the A-33.
The Traffic Operations Center mobilized patrols from Xàtiva and Alzira, who managed to intercept the vehicle on the A-35, within the municipal area of Moixent. The driver, of Spanish nationality, had covered a considerable distance, creating a "serious danger situation" for other road users.

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs represents a serious risk to road safety, being one of the main causes of road accidents that can also lead to the irreparable loss of human lives.

A Road Accident Investigation Team is investigating the man as the alleged perpetrator of two road safety offenses: reckless driving and driving under the influence of drugs. The drug test was positive, pending laboratory confirmation. The proceedings have been handed over to the Duty Court of Xàtiva.
The Penal Code provides for prison sentences of six months to two years and deprivation of the right to drive for reckless driving, and prison sentences of three to six months, fines, or community service, in addition to deprivation of the right to drive, for driving under the influence of drugs.
