The Valencian Provincial Council has published calls for aid to strengthen complementary educational services in rural Valencian municipalities at risk of depopulation, with an allocation of 257,000 euros.

The provincial institution will allocate a total of 257,000 euros to subsidies for school canteens, extracurricular activities, and student transport during the 2026-2027 academic year. The objective is to maintain basic services in rural areas and facilitate work-life balance, especially in municipalities where low population density makes it difficult to sustain these services.
The deputy for Sustainable Territorial Development, Avelino Mascarell, visited the Grouped Rural School (CRA) in Ademuz, where he stated that "the Provincial Council is committed with these aids to promote, together with the town councils, an adequate offer of complementary educational services in rural municipalities." He emphasized that "improving the quality of life through work-life balance helps maintain the attractiveness of rural territories to host life projects and thus combat depopulation".
Aid for rural school canteens has a budget of 61,000 euros and will cover the maintenance of municipally managed canteens and potential cost overruns due to a low number of users. It includes a specific line to promote healthy and sustainable food, encouraging the use of local, organic, and seasonal products. Subsidies can reach up to 11,000 euros per municipality.
Regarding school transport, the Provincial Council allocates 72,000 euros to facilitate student travel for various educational levels in rural municipalities. These aids will cover transport costs for students who do not meet the requirements for services funded by the Generalitat or who need to travel to other municipalities. Each town council can receive up to 9,000 euros.
The call for extracurricular activities, with a budget of 125,000 euros, focuses particularly on municipalities and population centers with fewer than 300 inhabitants. The aim is to ensure that children and young people can access educational, cultural, sports, or childcare activities without needing to travel to larger towns. These aids also include services such as morning schools, extended hours, holiday camps, or educational reinforcement activities. The possibility for neighboring municipalities to jointly organize certain activities is also considered.
