The decision comes after a meeting where a text presented by the former mayor of Valencia, Joan Ribó, was unanimously approved. In it, Ribó argued that Oltra's announcement to run for Mayor "reinforces" and "strengthens Compromís's leadership in Valencia's progressive space," offering the opportunity to regain an institution that "can greatly improve the lives of Valencians."
The former mayor urged progress on "all necessary processes" to ratify Oltra at the head of the candidacy for the city council, to form the list in a unified manner, and to "begin working, neighborhood by neighborhood, on the next electoral campaign."
In a document dated May 25, Ribó proposed initiating the procedure for an extraordinary assembly of Compromís to ratify Oltra as a candidate by the end of June. He also suggested forming the candidacy following the criteria of the coalition's municipal regulations to achieve a list "based on consensus and internal democracy," respecting the "representativeness of Compromís members" and expressing the "will to integrate other progressive parties and civil society entities" to form a "unitary and exciting" electoral list.
The date for this assembly has not yet been set, as it must be agreed upon with Mónica Oltra herself, who will present the project for a "broad candidacy." Oltra had already announced on March 28 her intention to return to frontline politics and accepted the challenge of being the coalition's candidate for Mayor of Valencia.
