The Procession of the Virgen de los Desamparados on May 11 of last year featured an unusual sight. As the Fallas commissions paraded, the child Fallera Mayor of the Alberic-Heroi Romeu commission, Marta Mercader, was seen in a wheelchair for part of the route.
According to the account, the procession started normally from home, and a photo was taken at the entrance of the Mercado de Abastos. Shortly after, the Fallera suffered a stumble that caused a sprained ankle. Given the situation, a wheelchair appeared to allow her to continue with the parade, instead of going to a health center.
The young girl continued the route in a wheelchair until she reached Bolsería Street, where she decided to stand up and finish the procession on foot, despite the pain. This act of commitment allowed her to complete the parade, albeit with difficulty in her walk. After the accident, she had to wear a strong bandage and use crutches for a few days.
Despite the incident, Marta Mercader continued with the final stretch of her reign, and two months later, the pre-selection arrived, consolidating her trajectory in the Fallas festival.
