A new book, Els somnis d’Omega, aims to give visibility to the contributions of women mathematicians throughout history, with the goal of inspiring new generations and combating the lack of female role models in science.

For many centuries, women's access to academic studies, especially in science, was forbidden. Despite this, many women made decisive contributions to scientific advancement, particularly in mathematics. However, their names and discoveries were systematically hidden or attributed to men in their circles, creating an inertia that still persists today, where the percentage of women in scientific studies is lower than that of men.
To combat this situation and offer female role models, Els somnis d’Omega is born. This book playfully reviews the contributions of eight important mathematicians, from Hypatia of Alexandria to Ana Justel. The work presents an adventure story where Omega, the protagonist, meets these influential women in their fields of study, highlighting their essential research.
The authors, Lara Ferrando Esteve and Irene Epifanio López, are two Valencian mathematicians committed to their discipline and to advocating for the fundamental role of women in science. Lara Ferrando holds a PhD in Neuroeducation Mathematics from UJI and is a teaching and research staff member at the University of València, creator of co-educational games, and recognized with the Talent Woman Spain award in 2022. Irene Epifanio López holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of València, is a professor of Statistics at Universitat Jaume I de Castelló, and a researcher at valgrAI, with awards in research, teaching, and dissemination, and a specialist in academic gender equality, receiving the Talent Woman Margarita Salas award in 2022.
The book also features illustrations by Paula Arnandis Carrasco, a visual and plastic artist, a Fine Arts graduate from UPV. Her illustrations portray the scientists in an agile and contemporary manner. The work, which was already presented in l’Alcúdia, will be launched at Llibreria Arribada (carrer de l’Heura, 2) in València, on Saturday, May 16 at 12:00 PM, with the presence of the authors and Neus Pedrós, from Edicions 96.
