The VAERSA waste treatment plant in Villena has completed its modernization thanks to an investment of 14 million euros, funded by European funds, to optimize waste management for the consortium's municipalities.

The VAERSA facilities in Villena, which were considered obsolete, have undergone a comprehensive renovation. This action, driven by European funds, has significantly improved waste management for the municipalities that are part of the consortium.
The intervention has ensured the continuity of the plant and included the definitive sealing of the landfill, carried out during the previous legislature, and the complete renovation of the warehouse roof. Additionally, improvements have been implemented in waste treatment processes, increasing separation and recycling capacity, and optimizing the overall efficiency of the service.
During the institutional visit to the plant, the collaboration between the various administrations involved in this project was highlighted. The objective is to strengthen the service that this infrastructure provides to the consortium's municipalities, and it is expected that the modernization may reduce the financial contribution of the city councils for the maintenance of the management system.

"Allowing use outside this scope would shorten the useful life of the facility and would be detrimental to the municipalities that are part of the consortium."

Fulgencio Cerdán · Mayor of Villena
The mayor of Villena, Fulgencio Cerdán, emphasized the relevance of this investment to consolidate a fundamental facility in waste reduction and environmental protection. He also requested that the plant maintain its activity exclusively for the municipalities of the CREA consortium, warning about the risks of allowing external use.
With this remodeling, Villena reinforces the strategic role of the VAERSA plant in waste management in its area of influence, adapting the service to new environmental and efficiency demands.
