This inland Valencian municipality serves as an example of how rural towns can combat depopulation. According to municipal sources, the goal of surpassing 300 residents is close to becoming a reality, a feat not achieved since 2007, when a census of 292 inhabitants was recorded.
“"This year we are heading towards 300. Exceeding this barrier would be historic news."
Behind this growth lies significant effort and enthusiasm from the local administration, which works to provide the necessary resources to encourage families to settle in the town. The Villa de El Toro boasts a school, an auxiliary medical clinic, sports facilities, and an economy primarily based on agriculture.
The town's appeal is reflected in the increase of students at its school. While in the 2024-2025 academic year there were 9 students, this number has now doubled, reaching 24 students when including those in secondary education. This vitality in its streets is the main motivation to continue working on the municipality's development.
“"We are a destination 365 days a year, and proof of this is that if in the 2024-25 academic year there were 9 students in the school, this year there are double the students, 24 if we include secondary school students. And that life flowing through our streets is the main motivation, what makes us move forward with even more enthusiasm."
