The Tírig Town Council has implemented a new municipal transport service to facilitate residents' access to medical centers, using a recently acquired vehicle and its own staff to cover travel needs.

The municipality of Tírig, in the Alt Maestrat region, has launched a new municipal transport service. This service is aimed at residents to facilitate travel to medical centers. As explained by Juanjo Carreres, the town's mayor, the initiative represents an improvement over the previous system, which involved hiring taxis.

"A few years ago, the service consisted of calling a taxi for the round trip. Now, we have modified it. The Town Council has acquired a new vehicle, and municipal staff will carry out the different services."

Carreres emphasized the importance of this service for the daily lives of citizens, especially considering the distance to major medical centers such as Castelló, Vinaròs, or la Vall d'Alba. The measure seeks to break geographical barriers and ensure more equitable access to public healthcare for all residents.

"Today, towns must work to improve the daily lives of citizens. The necessary medical services are far away, such as Castelló, Vinaròs or, on a smaller scale, la Vall d'Alba. That is to say, a vehicle is needed. This measure breaks these barriers and facilitates access to public health."

The Tírig Town Council has published an ordinance regulating the operation of this service. Interested individuals must notify their need at least 48 hours before their medical appointment. The transport is configured as a social service, primarily intended for elderly people without their own vehicle or unable to drive, and for specific trips to health centers.
The approved fees for using this service are 5 euros for round trips to Castelló, and 3 euros for trips to Vinaròs and la Vall d'Alba. All detailed information about the service can be consulted at the municipal offices of the Tírig Town Council during citizen service hours.
