Sustainability, innovation, and differentiation are fundamental pillars for the development of the tourism sector, especially in the Valencian territory, which constantly seeks new proposals. Outdoor tourism, with camping as a reference, has evolved to offer greater comforts without losing contact with nature.
Within these trends, glamping, which merges the concepts of glamour and camping, has become one of the most sought-after experiences. It provides the comforts of a hotel in private plots, maintaining the connection with the natural environment. Various styles exist, such as yurts, bubbles, or geodesic domes.
The management of the El Molí Glamping project in Atzeneta del Maestrat opted for geodesic domes for their initiative. This 30,000 square meter space, located next to an old flour mill, currently features three dome-suites with private 300 square meter plots, each with all amenities and a jacuzzi. The idea arose from the desire to undertake and contribute to the local economy.
“"In the end, you want to stay and live here and you have to keep expanding and evolving, and you also want to help improve the economy, as people who visit always buy from the town's shops."
The tourism proposal, which opened its doors in February 2025, is designed for romantic getaways. One of its distinctive features is absolute privacy, as dome users are not interrupted during their stay. Dinners are prepared in the family restaurant and left ready in the fridge, while breakfasts are delivered in a basket without direct contact with guests.
The initiative has been very well received, with almost full occupancy on weekends throughout the year and total occupancy during high season. Approximately 80% of clients come from Valencia, with the majority of the remainder from the rest of the Valencian Community. The visitor profile is typically middle-aged, between 30 and 60 years old. The glamping offers extras such as dinners and special decorations for anniversaries or romantic occasions, and many clients have repeated the experience.
The management was clear that they wanted domes due to their greater heat resistance compared to bubbles. Although they do not offer a 360-degree view, their location on a plain provides a spectacular view of the horizon and emblematic mountains like Penyagolosa. Currently, it is the only glamping with these characteristics in the Valencian Community.
The success of the domes has driven the expansion of the project, and it is expected that this summer three wooden cabins with their own design and a hydromassage bathtub will be activated. The incorporation of a jacuzzi in all bookable spaces is a significant attraction for clients. The expansion of the complex will soon continue with new domes, although the management notes that growth will be gradual. These initiatives contribute to the deseasonalization of tourism and generate a positive economic impact in the municipality.
