The decision, supported by all political groups –PSOE, Somos Ibi, PP, and Vox–, responds to a motion presented by local entities Ateneu Popular La Gavarnera, Associació Cultural El Teix, and Centre Excursionista Amics de les Muntanyes. The main concern focuses on the proposal to discharge treated water from the park into a ravine located within Ibi's municipal area.
The signatory associations consider that this solution does not eliminate the environmental impact of the project, but rather transfers it to the municipality of Ibi, compromising its ecosystems, landscape, and water resources.
The approved motion emphasizes that the Rambla de Ibi is an environmental corridor of great value, connecting areas such as La Devesa, Font Negra, Font de la Pileta, and Font dels Capitans. According to Salvem l'Aqüífer del Molinar, the introduction of an artificial flow of treated water would significantly alter this natural system.
Furthermore, it is highlighted that, to avoid problems in the Molinar aquifer in Alcoi, the risks are being transferred to Ibi's water reserves, describing it as an “externalization of an environmental impact.” The motion recalls that environmental problems generated by an action must be resolved within the same municipality and not transferred to another.
Given this situation, the Ibi City Council commits to undertaking all necessary actions before the Generalitat, the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation, and other involved institutions to demand a modification of the project. It will also request to be considered an interested party in the administrative and environmental procedures of the work, and will forward the agreement to the city councils of Alcoi, the Generalitat, and the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation.
The project is awaiting reports from various administrations, with two already issued by the Alcoi City Council's Department of Ecological Transition and the Ibi City Council, both negative. Despite this, Uepal and the Chamber of Commerce of Alcoi have expressed their support for the business park, considering it key to Alcoi's economic future and a step forward for the development of industrial land in La Canal.
