The Parque del Mar Neighbors Association in Alicante has demanded "maximum agility and determination" from the Alicante City Council to finalize the urban development agreement with ADIF, which will allow for the release of railway land adjacent to Casa Mediterráneo and Parque del Mar.

The neighborhood group states that the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (ADIF) has already formally communicated its agreement with the general terms of the text to the city council. Therefore, the association believes that the only remaining step is for the City Council to set a date for the final signing.
The entity has also requested an urgent meeting with the Urban Planning Councilor to understand the scope of the new urban area OI/8, which includes housing, hotels, and tertiary uses in the zone. The objective is to ensure that this operation serves to address historical deficiencies in the neighborhood and does not eliminate already committed public facilities.
Specifically, they express concern about the plot located between Banda de Música los Claveles and Nadadora Carmen Soto streets, where the City Council pledged to develop a public square demanded by residents. The group warns that the urban development must protect this future public space.
Furthermore, they propose a comprehensive solution that includes within the OI/8 area the municipal residential plot on Banda de Música los Claveles street and Polygon IV of the Fábrica de Sacos, located next to the Civil Guard Command in Elche Avenue. "We have been demanding for years the subsidiary demolition of the ruined houses of the Fábrica de Sacos due to their total abandonment and unsanitary conditions. Including this residential land in the compensation with ADIF would allow the City Council to reduce the conversion of public plots into housing and secure the land for the future park," they state from the Board of Directors.

The association has announced a new demonstration for next Thursday, June 11, at 7:30 PM, to demand progress before the summer. Residents will call for the agreement between the City Council and ADIF to be signed imminently and for urgent measures to be taken in the area.
Among these actions, the collective demands the dismantling of disused tracks and the creation of provisional pedestrian access points to allow residents to safely enjoy Parque del Mar during the summer months. The association appeals to the neighborhood and associative fabric of Alicante, as well as residents of the southern area, to join the protest. They argue that the neighborhood cannot miss a "historic opportunity" to improve its urban connection and dignify its public spaces.
