This initiative, confirmed by the association's president, Carmen Martí, stems from the residents' desire to manage the island's affairs more directly. The news has generated significant interest among the neighbors, who see this measure as an opportunity to improve their quality of life and the management of their environment.

Among the steps already taken, a collection of signatures from island residents has been submitted. For the request to proceed, the support of more than half of the neighbors is required. The association has secured the approval of 33 out of the 59 registered residents, thus exceeding the necessary threshold. They are now awaiting the next legal steps.
The Local Regime Law of the Comunitat Valenciana provides for the figure of minor local entities for population centers that, being territorially separated from their main municipality, possess particular characteristics justifying their constitution as such. This figure grants the locality full legal personality and capacity to exercise its own or delegated powers.
Tabarca is a small archipelago, with its main island, Plana or Nueva Tabarca, covering an area of about 30 hectares. On the western part of the island, there is a walled village where approximately 60 registered residents live.
