Seprona has launched an investigation to determine the causes of the forest fire that broke out on Tuesday afternoon on the slopes of the Maigmó mountain range, specifically in Racó de la Creu, within the municipality of Tibi (Alcoià).

This was confirmed on Wednesday by the sub-delegate of the Spanish government in Alicante, Manuel Pineda, to the media, after a meeting to prepare the security arrangements for the Romeria de la Santa Faz.

"It is still early. All hypotheses are open and for now, no other matter can be confirmed."

The fire originated on Tuesday on three different fronts, in a difficult-to-access area. Initially, three aerial units were mobilized to the forests of Tibi, but the rapid evolution of the flames required the intervention of more resources.
The Provincial Fire Consortium of Alicante reported on Wednesday at noon that the fire is stabilized, although still active, with a "favorable evolution". Currently, eight ground units, five forest fire units from the Generalitat, and two aerial units continue to work on extinction efforts.
The Maigmó mountain range, with an altitude of 1,296 meters, is one of the most important green lungs in the southern regions of the Valencian Community. It covers several municipalities in l'Alcoià, l'Alacantí, and Vinalopó, and is visible from the entire Alicante countryside, extending to towns such as Castalla, Agost, and Petrer.
